The Meaning of Christmas
I read of a native of China who wanted to become a Christian, but he could not understand how Christianity was superior to Buddhism or Confucius. Early one morning, a Christian Missionary saw the man walking and he had a big smile on his face. He said he had made a decision. The Missionary asked him how he had made his decision. He said, “Well, I had a dream last night, and I dreamed I fell into a pit. It was a large and very deep pit and the sides were steep. There was no way I could get out. I tried and tried, but it was hopeless.
“In my dream, Confucius came to the side of the pit and looked down at me and Confucius told me that if I was able to get out of the pit, he would then be able to give me some advice so I would never fall again.
“Then, Buddha came along. He looked down in the pit and told me if I would climb up so far, he would be able to reach down and pull me out.
“Then, Jesus Christ came by and Jesus climbed down into the pit and carried me out. He did for me what I was unable to do for myself.”
That’s the meaning of Christmas! When the Almighty God of the Universe left heaven, he stooped to the lowest roof in Bethlehem! And on the first Christmas, he clothed himself as one us.
For God so loved the World, that’s Bethlehem, that he gave his only begotten Son, that’s Calvary, that whosoever believeth in him, might not perish, that’s Salvation, but have eternal life, that’s Forever! And the best gift of all is Jesus; not just in December but throughout the year.
Merry Christmas to you and your family!
